Official launch of the 6th edition of the FEICOM National Award
On 17 April 2025, Cameroon’s Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance (FEICOM) officially launched the 6th edition of the FEICOM National Award for Councils’ Local Development Best Practices.
The launching ceremony, which was presided over by the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, was attended by the Ministers in charge of Urban Development and Women Empowerment and the Family, the Director of UN-Habitat Regional Office in Africa, the President of United Councils and Cities of Cameroon, several local elected officials, and senior officials of the United Nations system and Cameroon’s government services.
In his address, FEICOM’s General Manager outlined the objectives, areas, and stakes of the competition for local development. He also pointed out that several practices that won prizes in this competition have also received international recognition, such the practice submitted by Bangangté Council which later on featured among the winners of the United Nations Public Service Award, in the category “Improving the delivery of services.”
In addition to the traditional areas, i.e. resource management, management of infrastructure and facilities, local governance, sustainable development and local economic development, this year’s awards will feature three new special prizes dedicated to nutrition, women’s rights, and children’s rights. This will increase the number of awards from 14 to 17, and consequently, the financial prizes from 325 to 435 million CFA francs.
The FEICOM National Award is a competition that seeks to identify, evaluate, reward, and promote local development practices undertaken by Councils, their groupings, and City Councils that have significantly contributed to improving the living conditions of their populations.
A call for submissions and an Award Guide detailing the conditions of this competition will be published shortly.
