Local economic development projects window

The local economic development projects window, among other things, finances the following projects: (i) local economic facilities and infrastructure projects, (ii) local economic promotion projects, (iii) agricultural, fishing/fish farming and pastoral projects.

Local economic facilities and infrastructure projects include the following:

  • Markets for manufactured goods
  • Wholesale markets
  • Warehouses for agropastoral or manufactured products
  • Small-sized hotel and ecotourism establishments
  • Rest areas
  • Motor parks and bus stations
  • Multi-service heavy duty vehicle parks
  • Banquet halls and performance halls
  • Development and servicing of new layouts intended for housing construction
  • Council production forests
  • Other local economic facilities and infrastructure projects

FEICOM can be a shareholder in local economic development projects.

All projects whose economic and financial profitability is projected in a business plan are considered to fall under the category of local economic promotion projects.

The repayment period for the loan share of the funding of local economic facilities and infrastructure projects may not exceed twenty-five (25) years. The funding agreement specifies the repayment period per type of project.

Local economic promotion projects are projects whose economic and financial profitability is attested by a business plan and the operation repays the loan. They include the following:

  • Direct financial support for private initiatives undertaken by the Council
  • Support for the creation of local public companies
  • Acquisition of shares in public, parastatal and private commercial or industrial entities
  • Acquisition of land reserves
  • Second generation agricultural, fishing/fish farming and pastoral farms
  • Development and servicing of commercial and industrial parks
  • Modern shopping centres
  • Hotel and ecotourism establishments
  • Conference centres and exhibition parks
  • Agricultural, fishing/fish farming and pastoral equipment
  • Industrial and non-industrial equipment
  • Playgrounds and leisure parks
  • Artisanal and agro-industrial processing units for agricultural, pastoral, fishery/fish farming, woody and non-woody products
  • Artisanal and industrial processing units for other local products
  • Mining units and quarries
  • Industrial slaughterhouses
  • Other local economic promotion projects

The repayment period for loans incurred to finance projects that promote the local economy may not exceed twenty-five (25) years. The funding agreement specifies the repayment period per type of project.

Subsistence agricultural, fisheries/fish farming and pastoral projects addressing employment issues sensitive to gender, young people, disadvantaged groups and the climate include the following:

  • Subsistence agricultural, fishing/fish farming and pastoral farms
  • Traditional food markets
  • Community warehouses of agropastoral products
  • Other subsistence agricultural, fishing/fish farming and pastoral projects

The repayment period for the loan portion of the financing of subsistence agricultural, fishery/fish farming and pastoral projects may not exceed twenty (20) years.

The funding agreement specifies the repayment period by type of project.
